Blur - 1996

It's conceivable that with the onset of computer software and networks that function increasingly similarly to the way the mind works, this will blur the distinction between the tool and the tool-user.

While we do not know that the machine itself will become self-aware, it will increasingly provide a vehicle upon which your conscious processes can travel.. through raising the bandwidth of the network connection enormously, you will effect transduction through direct stimulation of brain/mind, after which the distinction is lost.

The immediate result of this will be observation and action at great distances from the command and control centre.. we will see the appearance of analogues to (whether you believe it or not) astral/mental travel.

Of course there is a very great danger in all this: and that is a rather severe form of madness caused by loss of internal conscious control.
