This is my great-great-grandfather, William Shields.

William was born in Co.Tyrone N.Ireland around 1818, son of Joseph and Catharine Shields. He emmigrated to Canada at unknown date, with his brother James and Sister Jane, and settled in Ontario. He married Margaret A. Beattie on 11 May 1847. They had 8 children.

Margaret died on 19 Jun 1859 in Sinclairville, leaving William to struggle raising a young family himself.

Over 10 years later, on 7 apr 1870 William married Maria Laidlaw.

He died on 14 Apr 1898 in Sinclairville and is buried there.
